This BJS 2024 abstract presents a prospective evaluation of LumenEye XI used in primary care and community-based colorectal triage settings. The study aimed to assess the device’s safety, acceptability, and clinical performance compared to flexible sigmoidoscopy.

Data was collected from patients presenting with lower GI symptoms. The findings showed that LumenEye XI was well tolerated, safe to use, and enabled accurate assessment of rectal pathology without immediate secondary care referral. The study also emphasised sustainability, highlighting the reduced need for carbon-heavy hospital-based diagnostics.

The authors conclude that LumenEye XI can be safely integrated into primary care triage pathways to improve access, reduce wait times, and promote environmentally responsible practice.
