I joined SurgEase as an intern in the summer of 2022. At the time, I was studying biomedical engineering and was eager to gain insight into how medical devices are developed, from the design process to prototyping. Although I was unable to visit any manufacturing sites since production was outsourced, I was shown images of the LumenEye and TrieEye devices, which helped me understand the final output.

What I appreciated most about the internship was the warm and welcoming environment. The company felt like a close-knit family, with everyone ready to support one another across different areas. I worked primarily in the engineering department, where I developed my skills in using CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.

One of the highlights of my experience was the Friday after-work drinks. These informal gatherings gave me the opportunity to connect with colleagues I wouldn’t normally interact with during the workday, which made networking feel natural and enjoyable.

By the end of the internship, I had become more confident, more skilled, and more knowledgeable about the medical device industry, which was exactly what I had hoped to gain. And of course, I have to mention the endless supply of free hot coffee, which was a simple but much-loved part of the experience.
